New insights into electron spin dynamics in the presence of correlated noise

The changes of the spin depolarization length in zinc-blende semiconductors when an external component of correlated noise is added to a static driving electric field are analyzed for different values of field strength, noise amplitude and correlation time. Electron dynamics is simulated by a Monte Carlo procedure which keeps into account all the possible scattering phenomena of the hot electrons in the medium and includes the evolution of spin polarization. Spin depolarization is studied by examinating the decay of the initial spin polarization of the conduction electrons through the D'yakonov-Perel process, the only relevant relaxation mechanism in III-V crystals. Supercurrent Induced Charge-Spin Conversion in Spin-Split Superconductors

We study spin-polarized quasiparticle transport in a mesoscopic superconductor with a spin- splitting field in the presence of co-flowing supercurrent. In such a system, the nonequilibrium state is characterized by charge, spin, energy and spin energy modes. Here we show that in the presence of both spin splitting and supercurrent, all these modes are mutually coupled. As a result, the supercurrent can convert charge imbalance, that in the presence of spin splitting decays on a relatively short scale, to a long-range spin accumulation decaying only via inelastic scattering. Quantum computing with molecular spin systems

Molecular spintronics promises to combine the flexibility offered by synthetic chemistry with the advantages of an electronics which is based on the electron spin rather than its charge degree of freedom. Here, we review recent work on the description of transport across molecular spin systems and on a proposal for an all-electrical scheme for the implementation of a fundamental two-qubit gate in a certain class of molecular systems.

Effect of a fluctuating electric field on electron spin dephasing in III-V semiconductors

In the present work we investigate electron spin relaxation in low-doped n-type GaAs semiconductor bulks driven by a static electric field. Fluorescence and spin properties of defects in single digit nanodiamonds

International audience; This article reports stable photoluminescence and high-contrast optically detected electron spin resonance (ODESR) from single nitrogen-vacancy (NV) defect centers created within ultrasmall, disperse nanodiamonds of radius less than 4 nm. Unexpectedly, the efficiency for the production of NV fluorescent defects by electron irradiation is found to be independent of the size of the nanocrystals. Fluorescence lifetime imaging shows lifetimes with a mean value of around 17 ns, only slightly longer than the bulk value of the defects. Conformation resolved induced infrared activity: trans- and cis-formic acid isolated in solid molecular hydrogen

We report combined experimental and theoretical studies of infrared absorptions induced in solid molecular hydrogen by different conformers of formic acid (HCOOH, FA). FTIR spectra recorded in the H(2) fundamental region (4120-4160 cm(-1)) reveal a number of relatively strong trans-FA induced Q-branch absorptions that are assigned by studying both FA-doped parahydrogen (pH(2)) and normal hydrogen (nH(2)) samples. The induced H(2) absorptions are also studied for HCOOD doped nH(2) crystals for both the trans and cis conformers that show resolvable differences. Analysis of the spatial distribution of free radicals in ammonium tartrate by pulse EPR techniques

Using pulse electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) on a series of l(+)-ammonium tartrate (AT) dosimeters exposed to radiations with different linear energy transfer (LET), we assessed the ability of pulse EPR spectroscopy to discriminate the quality of various radiation beams such as (60)Co gamma-ray photons, protons and thermal neutrons at various doses by analyzing the local radical distributions produced by the different beams. Squaramide-based reagent for selective chromogenic sensing of Cu(II) through a zwitterion radical.

2010

A minimalist squaramide-based chemodosimeter for Cu(2+) is described. Upon selective chelation to 2, Cu(2+) induces the formation of a highly colored zwitterionic radical, which is kinetically stable for hours. The presence of a radical is confirmed by EPR and ESI-MS. It is then possible to use reagent 2 for visual and selective sensing of Cu(2+) at neutral pH.
